IFQ CHRISTMAS "STRIPPY"
ROUND ROBIN

Sarah Gamble, the Chapter Leader of the V-Piecemakers Friendship Quilters, has come up with this FUN holiday round robin. She's made this round robin a bit different because you create a strip instead of borders. But read below and find out more.

The idea is to have this done and returned to each participant by Christmas so you'll have a love holiday wallhanging!

The rules are as follows …

  • You have all agreed to finish this row by row project. It is important to stick to the time frame and to use materials of a good quality, those which you would be happy to receive in your own quilt. If for some reason the world turns upside down and you find yourself in difficulties with meeting your commitment, please email me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
  • The first thing to do is to make a starter block. This is to be 16” wide (16.5” to allow for seam allowances) and as deep as you like- I suggest between 6 and 12 inches. You can use any patchwork technique you like, in the colour and style of your choice. This is the base block which will ‘do the rounds’ and be added to, and which you will receive back as part of your finished quilt top.
  • Start a notebook as well, in which you can record details about yourself, any ideas for the quilt, and so on. Tell the other members of your group your colour preferences and any colours you hate etc. This will travel with the quilt top, and each person can add a bit about themselves and the design for their row of the quilt. It’s a fun way of getting to know another a bit better!
  • Once your block is finished send it to the person below you on the list in your group. When posting abroad, please use Airmail as surface mail takes far too long. This project should always fit into a small packet, so should not cost a fortune to post overseas... I hope! Email the recipient if they are connected to the internet to let them know that you have posted the block off.
  • Each subsequent row is made to the same width (obviously!) but can be as deep as you need- again, I suggest between 6 and 12 “. If you felt really creative, you could add two - 3 to 6” rows instead of one wider row… The colour, style etc is up to the maker, but it’s nice to try and use as many differing techniques as possible, and to follow on from the information included in the notebook.
  • We are allowing 3 weeks for each row to be completed, and the quilt to be sent on to the next member of the group. This way it should return to the owner just in time for Christmas! You can mail earlier than the deadlines but please do not mail later. The exact dates are listed below.
  • Please feel free to email me at anytime I promise to get back to you as soon as I possibly can.
