This is a soccer quilt I made to sit on at my son's soccer games but after taking it to one game, they said it was too pretty to be sat on! The soccer balls are hand appliqued.

Velia Antila
V- Quilting Bees FQ

Well, Velia proves that Jane Parker is not the only IFQ member who is doll-mad! This whimsical bunch is a lot of fun!

Velia has certainly been busy with her doll making! These four fairies are lovely creatures!

Jennie Lewis
V-LadyBugs FQ

This is Jennie Lewis' Award Winning Quilt! She exhibited at the Festival of Quilts in the UK and won! Congratulations to Jennie. Be sure to click on the image to see more. As always, her work is fantastic!

Justine Merry
UK - Dart FQ

Here is a picture taken of Justine's final City and Guilds quilt after her three year course. She has done a wonderful job! The little strands or loops are finely zig zagged cords and hosts of pearl drops - there is a tremendous amount of detail in it. Her inspiration was one of Ert's (Ert Estorik) paintings she saw when on a cruise (lucky lady!). We thought it deserved to be exhibited in our Show and Tell and Justine said OK!

My other hobby is growing bonsai. I have a friend called Dan Barton in a group in Bristol UK who is well known as a bonsai artist and teacher. For his birthday as a special thank you for all he has done to help me with my bonsai, I made a wall hanging entitled 'The Acer Path' (size 38 inches long). Dan has many Acers (Maples) in his garden. I created images of his favourite bonsai trees and pots (as he is also a bonsai pot maker) which I painted and free-stitched onto the silk noile fabric and decorated with pieces of Japanese silk kimono scraps. Dan was very touched and pleased with the hanging.

This is the quilt made using the blocks created by my friends for the Brown Bag round robin at Dartington Quiltmakers last year. I asked them to create 10 inch pieced stars with a suitable zoo animal in the centre of the block. I supplied a bag of fabrics and they could add any appropriate from their stashes. I made three blocks myself to make up the 12 required for the quilt which is single bed sized for one of my grandsons - Dominic aged 4 who is fascinated by animals. The blocks from top left are: Owl, squirrel, elephant, giraffe, leopard, zebra, tiger, lion, rooster, horse, penguin and pelican. The alternate squares are a zoo print - the whole quilt does appear busy but it does not fix too much of a colour scheme and bear in mind this will be used and jumped on no doubt by Dominic and Miles his brother a year older! When making a quilt for someone - you have to let it go to its new life and it is no good worrying about it! The reverse is fun too, jungle animals in a panel in the centre surrounded by a woodgrain print and a border made of all the animal coat prints I could lay hands on!

Dart FQ members who are also part of Dartington Quiltmakers completed their white on white blocks which are shown laid out in the WIPS gallery page. This is the completed hanging entitled 'Devonshire Cream' which will soon be shown at the Quilters Guild of the British Isles Festival of Quilts at Birmingham UK in August. Each of the blocks is 6 inches square and incorporates only white or cream fabric in three layers. The techniques used include folding, applique, embroidery, Italian, stuffing, beading and lacework. The fabrics used are cotton, velvet, satin, calico (English terminology), lace and silk. The blocks are spaced with pale wooden beads and the dowel is wrapped in a twisted cord handmade of cream and white silk and cotton threads which hang alongside.
