Pair of scissors

Scissor Pals are like pen pals, only you exchange scissor cases rather than letters! After you sign up for this event, you will be matched up with a Scissor Pal who may come from anywhere in the world. You will each make a scissor case that you then send to your partner.

Your scissor case may be any size, color or shape. It may be highly embellished with sequins, beads, embroidery, or it may be homespun and earthy. You may make the case in any shape you like - anything goes!

It's all up to you; get as creative as you can. There are just three rules to follow. Firstly, you must make your scissor case (not ready-made), secondly, your case must actually be functional and, thirdly, you should sign and date your masterpiece. Other than that, the sky is the limit!

Cindy Augustus and Betty Blackwell are hosting this exchange, and you can reach them at scissor@friendshipquilters.com

Need some inspiration? Here are a couple of pictures of finished scissor cases to get things started. Click on each picture for a larger view. The first one was designed by Tina Girard, and features 3-D appliqué. The second case was made by Cindy Augustus; the scissors are stored underneath the skirt!

  • Sign Ups open March 9. You must be a registered IFQ member and logged in to sign up. You may sign up for this event more than once: each time you sign up you are committing to make and exchange a scissor case with an IFQ friend.

You will receive a confirmation email after you sign up. This will come from scissor@friendshipquilters.com, so be sure your mail filters and spam blockers allow mail from this source.

  • Sign Ups close March 29.

  • Picture Posting deadline is April 10. You must post a picture in the IFQ Scissor Pals gallery no later than this date to get the name and mailing address of your exchange partner. Picture posting is a firm requirement for this event. If you need help with this please contact Cindy or Betty in time to meet this deadline (the day OF the deadline is TOO late to ask for help, so please plan ahead).

Once you get the name of your exchange partner why not make a date in the Chat Room? Get to know each other a little better!

  • Mailing Deadline is April 17. The scissor case for your exchange partner must be posted to the mail no later than this date.

If you have any questions
Cindy or Betty will be happy to help!
