My central block is of four hand-appliqued saffron crocus flowers. The ATC-ers will recognize the design ;o) Sarah, from NZ, has added machine-appliqued Clarice Cliff roses and Nancy has added a zinging outer border. Nancy suggested that I appique a crocus in each corner but I think I will quilt them instead. What do you all think of our efforts?
The finished notebook is a treasure too.

This is the 1st round robin I have done. New Beginnings is what Spring reminds me of home, animals, children and flowers in other words family. I thank Dany for the lovely flying geese, Brigid for the flowers and Benita for her contribution. I have enjoyed this event.

Spring Crocus. I love Crocuses and look forward to them every Spring. I selected the black background so that the crocuses would pop!

Hi, this is my little Sue!
I made this block because, for me, this is is the symbol of perfect springtime, with flowers, butterflies and birds, bees and Sue that take care of her flowers!
I used fusible appliquè and I embroidered by hand the flowers.

Here is the front of the book cover that I have made for my Spring RR notebook. I used a layer of metallic organza, in an iridecsent purple shade, over a magenta silk fabric. These were machine embroidered with my own designs of butterflies. I embellished the largest butterfly with beads and sequins.
The booklet/notebook will be stitched together in the manner of Japanese stab binding.

I just love Sunbonnet Sue! The first quilt that I ever had the pleasure of helping with was actually a Sunbonnet Sue, so now she is rather special to me. Of late, the colors blue and yellow just seem to jump out at me as my fabric stash confirms. I also used the opportunity to try out my ribbon embroidery. I haven't done this for many years, but it turned out ok. I had to throw some red geraniums into her garden because they are my favorite! They always seem to end up in my garden!! And the butterfly is one of my mom's favorite things, so it brings her into the block, too. So I guess between Sue, Spring, geraniums and butterflies, my block is just a combination of my favorite things!!

I used the Saffron Crocus grown in Saffron Walden, Essex,UK in the Middle Ages, as my starting point for this Challenge. The Saffron was used in the wool dyeing trade and made this town and area very prosperous for the landowners.
I love crucus, especially the purple ones and I chose these as the theme for my ATCs (Artistic Trading Cards). Although my least favourite colours are yellows and oranges I love the way Nature uses them.
I am really looking forward to seeing how this RR progresses. I leave the design and colour decisions to my RR group partners Sarah and Nancy. They may use peiced, plain or appliqued borders; what ever they wish.
I also look forward to getting the completed top back and then quilting it for the final display photo.
