This is Pamela's "A Day at the Sea". I carried her pink shell triangles out to the border and used her other shell fabric for the corners. I thought that it tied it all together. Diann

i like the overlap between the sun and the sails! to get a border just on the ends, i added a border, then unlocked the width, and took the left and right borders down to nothing. hadnt done this before! the stars were added as i was thinking of tall ships, and navigating by the stars...

Diann, I hope you like the final version of your EQRR Light House quilt. I wanted to keep the excitement and movement of the colors from the center of the quilt by carrying them through to the outer border. I added embroidery as another layer and liked the compass as representing "The Lighthouse Guiding the Ships Safely on Along the Shoreline." I added the Sail Boat embroidery representing the Ships guided by the Light House. I changed the fabric for the water and the grass in order to give a different texture and contrast against the other colors. I liked the fabric I used in the outer border because of the mottled colors and movement it added to the quilt. [I haven't learned how to add new fabrics to EQ from the internet yet, and that will help with more selections in the future.] I thought your selection of a Light House was brilliant, wished I'd thought of it lol's. I was very impressed with the great diamond design added for the 2nd round and then thought Sarah was so talented to add the sun's rays in the 3rd round. I felt quite intimidated at first and was thinking HOW will I ever add a proper border to her work. However, after a short while, I started getting some ideas and felt the last border needed to give the quilt that feeling of a finished look, yet tie the whole thing together. Therefore, I hope it gives you that feeling, as well. I would enjoy the challenge of making this quilt in real life. How do you feel about the final result? I hope you enjoy it. This is another version for Tina for Round 2. I guess my first version didn't work very well. Sorry.

Hi Tina; Here is the centre from Daniela to Eyglo to me. In the border I added, I tried to take part of the centre theme - in this case I wanted to reuse the star points in some way. Lauren

Here is Sarah's quilt with the next border. I played with different colors from the fish for this border. This was the combination that I liked best. Diann

i thought of a trip to the lighthouse at cape reinga, right at the top of new zealand, that we did a few years ago. it was a glorious sunny day and when i was pondering how to add to this quilt, the sun suddenly shone through the window. i did this by adding a border then unlocking the width measurements. i used easydraw to make a square block, hoping it would distort to a nice sun shape when i added it. fortunately it did!

Diann, This is what I was thinking about while adding the outer two borders: continuity within the quilt from the center design out into the border area. Also using the technique I always use when creating my quilts - if I like a particular fabric or color (pink from the center in this case), I try to bring it out into the border area as well, if it will add some punch to the quilt. I added the Sail Boat embroidery because it added a new layer to the quilt, yet seemed to calm the quilt down a little, while adding a new dimension of carrying the theme from the center of the quilt through to the outer border: Meaning that I saw a pattern representing the different layers of the sea in this quilt design - so the center design represents sand and sea shells at the bottom of the sea; moving to fish in the center of the sea; and then to the top of the sea represented by the sail boats. I chose to use the nearly solid pink (attempting to get the same color pink as in the center) to keep the excitement of the bright color, yet calming the quilt down just a little by using a somewhat solid looking fabric. I really like the quilt and would love to make it. I hope Pam likes the outcome. It was great fun adding Round 3. I hope you have fun with the last round Diann. Sincerely, Barb S.

Hi Lauren This is my adding to Tinas center and Danielas first border and I loved to play with that

I have used Eyglo's original theme of multi blue square tiles. This quilt reminds me of mosaic tiles in a swimming pool.

i got that fishy feeling and played with various fish designs. initially i had one in each block, but it looked a bit much. i also started out with about a dozen different fish, but thought that it looked too muddly.

I have added a border of 4 inches to Laurens original block that is 12 inches, adding in a new colour, teal and working with Laurens' original theme.

Here is my border Diann. I hope you like it. I pulled the red out into the corner stones. The brown is like sand on the beach that is out of view between the grassy area and the ocean. My border is 1 inch big & little out points with corner stones. Pam Moulton
