Neighboring houses

Charly Saminto, of V-DragonFly FQ, is hosting this exchange. You can reach her at homeheart@friendshipquilters.com.

This exchange celebrates the unique place you call home. Participants will create six 12-inch blocks that represent their home. Then they will exchange 5 of those blocks with IFQ team mates. The 6 blocks (one you keep, 5 from IFQ friends) can be used to make an IFQ neighborhood wallhanging or quilt. If you would like to build a larger neighborhood quilt, you may sign up for this event more than once. Each time you sign up you are agreeing to make six 12-inch blocks, 5 of which you will exchange with your team mates.

The goal here is to make your blocks evocative of your home, and to be as creative as possible. Use patchwork, appliqué, paper piecing, or any other method you devise. The finished blocks must measure exactly 12-1/2" from raw edge to raw edge (they will finish at 12" once sewn into quilt top). The blocks must be functional in a useable quilt. That means they must be washable, so pre-washing your fabrics is required. The finished quilt should be comfortable to lie on, which means that any embellishments used must meet this requirement.

  • Sign Ups open March 12. You must be a registered, logged-in IFQ member to sign up for this event. You may sign up for this event more than once: each time you sign up you are committing to make six 12" quilt blocks, and to exchange 5 of them with team mates.

You will receive a confirmation email after you sign up. This will come from homeheart@friendshipquilters.com, so be sure your mail filters and spam blockers allow mail from this source.

  • Sign Ups close April 14.

  • Picture Posting deadline is May 4. You must post a picture of your finished quilt blocks in the IFQ Home is Where the Heart Is gallery no later than this date to get the names and addresses of your team partners. Put all 6 blocks in one shot.

Picture posting is a firm requirement for this event. If you need help with this please contact Charly in time to meet this deadline (the day of the deadline is TOO late to ask for help, so please plan ahead).

  • Mailing Deadline is May 12. The blocks for your partners must be posted to the mail no later than this date.

If you have any questions Charly will be happy to help!
