US - SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FQ /UK - DART FQ
Project Exchange

The Southern California Chapter put together a fun project and sent of 21 surprise packages to Devon, UK. They decided on a Halloween theme, since this is a fun holiday in the States.

James & Suzy created a special pattern for a Halloween Trick or Treat bag and the group set to work! We pulled out our fun Halloween fabric and picked up our needles (well...threaded our machines might be a more accurate description!). 21 of these handy little bags, complete with inside pockets, were made.

Then we had to find the "treats" that went into our Trick or Treat bags. In keeping with the Halloween tradition of gathering candy, we made "Quilters' Candy" by folding up fat quarters and making them into lollipops (lollies). We also found some fun Halloween knick knacks to include. Finally, we decided that instructions for Trick or Treating would be helpful in using the bags to their full potential!

We met at James' house and went to work. There was a lot to be done! We had to get organized and form an assembly line. We didn't want any bag to be missing a treat! Suzy and Fran worked the fat quarter brigade and created the quilters' candy while Maureen and Sharon gathered up the ghosts, spiders and witches and stuffed them into the bag. Juanita was on sticker patrol and took her job very seriously. We've already shown you, above, how very professionally Marilyn carried out her duties. Small paper Halloween bags also had to be filled with candy corn - since everyone knows that you can't have Halloween without candy corn. Isn't that written somewhere?

We stuffed and wrapped....and laughed along the way. We then packed it into a large box and shipped it away. Then we waited...anxious to hear the response from Devon FQ.

UK - DART FQ OPENS THEIR PACKAGES

Finally the day arrived for UK - Dart Chapter to open up their challenges. Fortunately, Chapter Leader Delyse, was there with her camera to capture the fun!

The UK - Dart Friendship Quilters each received a package - wrapped in either black or orange, since no other colors will do when it comes to Halloween! Each package was sealed with a Halloween sticker depicting an icon of the season - be it ghost, witch or pumpkin. When opened, they found a Trick or Treat bag each made from different Halloween fabrics. When you looked inside the bag, it was lined with yet another Halloween fabric and had small pockets because we ALL know, you can never have too many pockets! Among the various treats inside (many of which are listed above), the Friendship Quilters found Halloween pencils and black rubbery bats and ghosts. And of course, the trick or treating instructions.

We are hoping that our English Friendship Quilters will study these instructions well and have a wonderful Halloween. We will, of course, expect "Trick or Treating" reports after the holiday. We are confident that our instructions will help our English friends to have a very "productive" Halloween and to bring home LOTS of candy. After all, quilting and candy go pretty well together, don't you think?
