Tina Girard, of UK-Threads of Time FQ, created a lovely little bird pattern to share with her IFQ friends. Small enough to nestle in the palm of your hand, these tiny birds may be embellished to your heart's content! While these little avian friends would be lovely at any time of the year, Tina designed them especially for IFQ's Christmas in July theme. They would make charming Christmas tree ornaments or package toppers.

Each participant in this exchange will make 5 birds. After the picture posting deadline, you will be assigned a team and mailing information for 5 "feathered friends" will be made available. Each person will mail off the 5 birds they made and will, in return, receive 5 lovely birds in the mail from their IFQ friends! You may sign up more than once for this event, understanding that each time you sign up you are committing to making and mailing 5 birds. That is, if you sign up twice, you will make and mail (and receive) 10 birds total. These birds can be made of any fabric - they do NOT have to be made from Christmas fabric.

After you sign up you will receive a confirmation email with the password to download Tina's pattern. Be sure that your email filters are set to accept email from bird@friendshipquilters.com

There is a forum set up for the Birds of a Feather event. When you mail and receive birds you must post a message in the forum so that Tina can keep track of where all those little birds have flown (we wouldn't want any ruffled feathers, now would we?). You may also discuss techniques and ask and answer questions in the forum.

  • Sign ups open: Monday, July 24. You must be a registered IFQ member and logged in to sign up. By signing up you are agreeing to make and mail 5 birds but, if you would like to make and receive more than 5 Birds of a Feather, you may sign up more than once (one sign up per 5 birds). Each set of five birds must be unique.

  • Mailing Deadline: Wednesday, September 6 . This is the very last day to get your Birds of a Feather into the mail. Then keep an eye on the Birds of a Feather Forum to see when your partners receive their birds.

Tina Girard and Phyllis Steer, both of UK-Threads of Time FQ, are co-hosting this event. If you have questions or need a little help drop them a note at bird@friendshipquilters.com
