Delyse Upton, of V-Dart FQ, and Mary Ellen Carter, of V-LadyBugs FQ, are hosting this IFQ creative exchange.
They can be reached at create@friendshipquilters.com
In this event participants will make a small, creative wallhanging that will be exchanged with another participant. The theme is Traveling the World, and your wallhanging should depict a destination you would like to visit as the main theme of the hanging, but you could also include a mode of travel (trains, planes, boats, cars, etc.) as appropriate to the place if you wish. Rather like those lovely travel posters!
How about Egypt with some camels? Or, China with planes and rickshaws? Or, even a Caribbean cruise on a liner - complete with yummy food? The combinations are endless, and up to you - so have fun! You MUST use piecing or appliqué and hand or machine stitching and quilting. You MAY also embroider, appliqué, piece, paint, couch, or use any method to embellish your wallhanging. Just enjoy making something that your recipient will appreciate. Help your exchange partner mentally visit your chosen location!
The wallhanging may be as creative as you like, and there are just a few rules to follow:
-
The LONGEST side is to be no greater than 18 inches.
-
The theme is TRAVELING THE WORLD, and your wallhanging should depict a destination you would like to visit. You may optionally include a mode of travel, as well.
-
The hanging should have a sleeve on the top back, or hanging loops of your choice. In other words, it must have some convenient hanging feature.
-
The wallhanging should incorporate 3 layers. Bear in mind the weight of the finished item, as you will be mailing it to an exchange partner. It is best to avoid thick or heavy wadding (batting).
-
You MUST use piecing or appliqué, and the wallhanging must be hand or machine stitched and quilted. You MAY add additional embellishment of any kind.
