An IFQ Fiber Art Postcard Exchange

No matter what season your part of the world is enjoying right now, we will all go through WINTER eventually. This edition of the IFQ Fiber Art Postcard exchange is a tribute to this season. Do you see your Winter Wonderland as a sparkling snow-covered landscape, or does your dream involve a sparkling sand-covered beach? Create a Fiber Art Postcard that represents YOUR idea of a Winter Wonderland.

Judi Kirk, of V-Quilting Sisters Friendship Quilters, is the host of this event. She has guided the IFQ Fiber Art Postcard exchanges from the beginning, and we are pleased to have her host this round, too! Thanks, Judi!

The theme for this exchange is WINTER WONDERLAND.

Fiber Art Postcards (FAP) are mini pieces of art. Made into 4" x 6" rectangular shapes, there are dyed, painted, crayoned, discharged, photo transferred, andhourglass even copper foiled cards. They have created quite a stir in post offices before they arrive in individual mailboxes, making mail delivery time something to look forward to. Not only does it encourage participants to try new techniques and to experiment with new materials but for some it is their first venture into the realm of fiber art.

Each designer uses their own technique and most cards are made by layering decorative fabric, thin cotton batting, and muslin backing. The sandwich is then quilted and embellished. It is mailed without an envelope because the postage stamps and postmarks add to the mystique of each card. The sending and return addresses are written directly on the back side, just like a regular postcard.

  • June 15 - Sign ups open. You may sign up more than once, if you desire. Each time you sign up you are committing to making and exchanging one Fiber Art Postcard using the "Winter Wonderland" theme. You will be sent a confirmation email with lots more information, details, and tips once you sign up.

Be sure your spam and email filters allow mail from fap@friendshipquilters.com or you may not get this mail.

  • June 30 - Sign ups close.

  • July 16 - "Winter Wonderland" themed Fiber Art Postcards must be completed AND pictures posted in the FAP gallery no later than this date. You must post pictures of your finished FAPs to get the postal address information for your exchange partners. There is a Picture Preparation page on this site to help you successfully prepare your pictures for the Gallery. After you have posted your picture be sure that it is visible in the gallery. If you can't see it we can't either, and if there is no visible picture we won't know you need a partner! Mailing partner assignments will be available a couple of days after this deadline.

July 31 - FAPs must be mailed no later than this date. This is a firm deadline, so please make arrangements to mail your cards out no later than this date. For instance, if you are planning a holiday, make arrangements for someone else to take them to the post office, etc. Once you have mailed the cards, post a message in the Fiber Art Postcard forum saying to whom you mailed the cards. This will help Judi keep track of the progress of this event.

If you have questions, or need a little help drop Judi a note.
She will be happy to oblige!

You must be an IFQ member and logged in to sign up for this event. You will receive a confirmation email after signing up. If you do not receive this email within one day, please contact us right away.
